Apple Watch Series 1 performance

The Apple Watch Series 1 is based on the Apple S1 single-core SiP (System in Package) chip, designed on the ARMv7-A micro architecture and manufactured using Samsung’s 28nM process.

By the way, there were rumors that Samsung was the main contract supplier of key components for the production of smart watches, such as RAM and NAND flash memory.

But disassembly of early devices revealed RAM and flash from Toshiba and Micron Technology.

The Apple S1 chip operates at a maximum clock speed of 520 MHz, the level 1 cache (L1 cache) contains 32 KB of memory, and the L2 cache contains 256 KB. The graphics accelerator PowerVR SGX543 is responsible for the graphics operation.

Apple Watch 1 received an OLED Retina screen with Force Touch technology (the ability of the sensor to recognize the force of pressing).

Depending on the version of the device, the display is covered with either aluminosilicate or sapphire glass.

Depending on the physical size of the watch model, a different matrix size with the same density of pixels per inch is used:

38 mm model: 1.32 inches diagonal, 272 x 340 pixel resolution, 326 PPI
42mm model: 1.5 ” diagonal, 312 x 390 pixel resolution, 326 PPI
